In this episode Felisin, Heboric, and Baudin take the worlds worst road trip. Mappo and Icarium find a boat. Fiddler, Apsalar, and Crokus find a road. And Kalam…is around. And there’s this whole rebellion thing. It’s a big deal. Predictions: Otataral is not simply an element that mutes magic. Instead it is a superior form of magic that mutes magic from inferior warrens. The situation with the Coltaine’s wagon train of civilian refugees is going to get ugly. I know that Coltaine has been pitched as a highly competent commander, but he is just in an awful situation. We’ll see more characters start to merge in later chapters of the book. I’m looking for Toblakai and Leoman to show back up when one of the group discovers them. I suspect that Kulp will find Felisin and crew. Fiddler mentions Tremolor in a way that makes me think that this is where the Deadhouse Gate will arise. I thought it would be where Iskaral Pust is located, but now I’m beginning to think that isn’t the case. Tremolor is inside of some warren. The Name Theory: Characters with terrible names die right away, those with good names come back around. Our next episode will cover Chapters 8 and 9 of Deadhouse Gates by Steven Erikson. In this episode we see the beginning tremors of a violent rebellion brewing in the Seven Cities. Fiddler rescues two girls, then passes on an opportunity at ascendency. Kalam gets played. Icarium reads some books. Also, things get strange. Trigger Warning: In this episode we discuss trauma; specifically sexual trauma. Predictions: Heboric and Baudin are planning to escape and leave Felisin, but will take her (or she’ll follow) at the final moment. They aren’t telling her because they don’t trust her. There is a cave in the lake. Heboric will die during this book. The Dosii will revolt. The Spirit Walkers Song will be an element that arises in a future book. Fiddler is a mage. Trell will betray Icarium. Iskaral Pust put those books in this “library” on purpose. He is trying to draw something out of Icarium. In this episode we leave Genebackis and visit Unta briefly before settling into the Seven Cities. We meet Felisin, Ganoes Paran’s sister in the worst possible circumstances. And we explore new characters and old in the Raraku Desert, Hissan and Ehrlitan. In this episode the Bridgeburners make their way to Darujhistan. So does everyone else. We are introduced to the T’lan Imass. Lorn, Toc the Younger, Dujek, and Tattersail have a very awkward dinner. But, not as awkward as Paran and Tattersails burgeoning romance. Predictions: They wanted to get rid of Tattersail during the attack on Moons Spawn because of her previous relationship with the old Emporer. And they want to keep Tayschrenn around because, while he is a powerful mage, he is a weak person. The Empress sent mages into the Mouse Quarter to indiscriminately kill “witches” and then sweep through with the Claw to recruit people who could potentially become radicalized. It was a deliberate and measured act. The First Throne is in the shadow warren. Crone is going to betray Caladan Brood. Caladan Brood is going to die in this novel.
