Hello and welcome to the natural lifestylist podcast Happy New Year all you beautiful beings of Planet Earth. I recorded this podcast way back in the first half of2020 but then I dropped into hyper-focus mode in preparation for the crazy one man, two feet, three peaks barefoot event. Then on returning from the 17 marathons, 3 barefoot peaks in 9 days I hit a massive comedown and had to go into save my own ass mode. This included the whole Riddle Tribe moving out of London and into the country. One could say I somewhat dropped the ball on this podcast. Apologies to the wonderful Abby and all those who have waited for this. But in keeping with my push don't flow philosophy I suspect this will be exactly the right, devine time to drop this episode. There has been lots of talk recently on the new norm but as far as I'm concerned the only new norm we should be moving towards is, actually, the natural norm. Which, ain’t that new. This conversation has certainly helped me better understand and articulate my message around the natural food norm. It takes a huge amount of skill in our modern, industrialized world to get our fundamental needs met. I hope this conversation will help you refine your food filter and make that journey a little easier to understand. Abby Rose is the co-creator and co-host of Farmerama, a platform for the regenerative farming movement; for them to share their voices. Abby is also the co-founder of Vida Cycle apps, creating digital tools to create ecology, profitability and beauty on farms around the World. Their tech tools are built to support a paradigm shift towards regenerative farming where farmers are empowered through learning from their observations. I really hope you enjoy this chat. I learnt a hell of a lot from Abby and I feel like it's just the start. Enjoy the conversation. Where can you find Abby and her work? Welcome to The Natural Lifestylist Podcast It’s been quite some time since I last released a new podcast, even though this one's been in the bank and I've been itching to put it out. It didn't feel appropriate to put it out, especially in these coronavirus times. Then, as if by magic, I was presented with some research that suggests that high levels of air pollution, specifically diesel may be one of the contributing factors to deaths from COVID-19. You can check out that research by clicking here. That was then a brilliant opportunity for me to release this episode since air pollution is a topic that we speak about in our conversation. My guest on this episode is James Thornton. The New Statesman has named him as one of 10 people who could change the world. James Thornton is an environmental lawyer and writer. He is the founding CEO of Client Earth, a global, non-profit, environmental law organization. James launched Client Earth in 2007 sparking fundamental change in the way envi...
So peeps let me introduce to the the man that is Roger Wright (LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/roger-wright-7bb40126) Roger Wright is a packaging technologist with over 20 years’ experience designing out waste and designing in, solutions that work. Roger’s inspired by a future where the ‘activity’ of packaging is understood more holistically and can evolve within the context of an effective circular economy. He also believes that when packaging is integral to building a successful brand, costing only a tenth of the goods it protects and promotes but with a net positive impact on the world, we should all “Love the Last 10%!”. Roger and I spent a fair bit of time together and I feel I learnt so much from the conversation. And as if the conversation wasn’t enough he also joined me for the final 10 mile run of the day and an ice bath workshop with the Artur Pailins and Martin Petrus from the Nice collective. Anyway enough waffle - I hope you enjoy the sustainability chat. Meet Richie Norton AKA The Strength Temple. I first met Richie at a dinner that WeMove Magazine had put together. We instantly hit it off. To be fair there’s not a lot to not like about Richie, so hitting it off is a no brainer. Richie is an ex-rugby player turned Yogi, surfer, adrenaline junkie. He has spent the last 10 years working alongside sports professionals and some of the most respected pioneers of human performance and what has grown out of this is Richie’s own unique blend of Meditation, Breathwork and Yoga to help us live more sustainability. . I had the pleasure of getting behind the mic with the man with the sustainability plan; Michael Thornton. Michael Thornton is an engineer, entreprenuer and the founder of Carbon Analytics. After close to a decade working on sustainable water, power and projects around the world as a civil engineer, Michael accepted a scholarship for an MBA in social entrepreneurship at Oxford University with a question in mind? How do we transform our global economy to understand and value the natural world it depends on? And how do we do it without relying on government? Carbon Analytics, his company that automates carbon footprinting for businesses and supply chains is the result of that question. Michael and I continue the conversation away from the mic’s as we go for a 10 mile run to finish my 30 for the day and ever since I have been spreading his carbon analytics message to my brothers and sisters. I really enjoyed my time behind the mic with the one that is Sophie Hellyer - what a being she is. I had just completed 20 slow and sticky barefoot miles and found that we only had 20 mins to drop the mic! Yes, 20 minutes might seem short in time, but it was punchy and definitely didn’t fall short in delivering the integrity of Sophie’s sustainability message. You never know which way a conversation is going to go, but I was delighted with the direction of this. As a father to three daughters I found this particular sustainability conversation of vital importance. You can find out about all of Sophie’s endeavours including her risefierce reteats via @sophiehellyer or by heading to www.sophiehellyer.com. I had the pleasure of visiting the mighty Surfers Against Sewage yesterday and getting behind the mic with Hugo Tagholm. We discussed sustainability and how this small but powerful organisation are making huge waves. Together, we are the voice of the ocean. We inspire, unite and empower communities to protect oceans, beaches, waves and wildlife. They are a grassroots movement that has grown into one of the UK’s most active and successful environmental charities. Not just surfers, not just sewage. They began as a response by the surfing community to the dreadful state of our beaches. Those hardy souls who ventured into the water back then often found themselves swimming in raw sewage. There’s tales of sanitary towels on heads and human poo sandwiched between bodies and boards. Completely unacceptable. The campaign grew loud, proud and strong and thanks to the passion and perseverance of their members — the UK now enjoys some of the cleanest beaches in Europe. But ‘Plastic is the n...
