While we are in the midst of the summer months, we are also in the beginning of most fall marathon training cycles. With that in mind, we bring you a new mini-series, "Road to Chicago" with Tim McKone. Tim is the quintessential dedicated amateur runner. He was a strong athlete in his teens, including a stint as a division three basketball player. After college Tim gained a foothold in the ultra competitive world of sports broadcasting. Over the past decade Tim spent five years as a sports anchor at NBC 10 in Providence, RI and is currently a sports anchor at 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston. As his career started to take off his fitness and personal dedication to athletics started to slip. While Tim relishes the opportunity to pursue his dream, it's a job with unpredictable and long hours. After some fits-and-starts Tim decided to dedicate himself to being the best runner he could be in the spring of 2021. That's when he hired me as a running coach and decided to become a marathoner. This summer Tim is committed to returning to the Chicago Marathon after a tough 2021 performance. We will follow along with his journey to the fateful day when Tim returns to the Windy City with hopes of running to the level of his fitness and talent. You can follow Tim at https://twitter.com/Tim_McKone. If you're looking to enhance your performance you can find a great coach at www.mckirdytrained.com. I've been a proud member of their deep and talented coaching roster for years and couldn't recommend it strong enough. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

10 years ago, at the age of 30, Hebah Hefzy realized she needed to make a change. Hebah graduated from high school at 16 years old and medical school at 22. Her drive and talent were elite . Her academics and career were a priority for Hebah but her physical fitness had taken a backseat. She was alarmed when she felt out of shape climbing a flight of stairs. As a doctor, Hefzy talked to patients about the importance of exercise but she was failing to walk-the-walk. Hefzy couldn’t run a mile, but decided running was something she could fit into her schedule. At the time she was married with three children and working as a vascular neurologist in Detroit, Michigan. During her lunch breaks she would change in a Starbucks bathroom, run for 10 minutes, then go bac to work. It wasn't ideal but it was a start. In the following 10 years Hebah attacked her running goals with energy and optimism, even when some of the people closest to her insisted that she stop. Now Hebah is a six time Bost...
At first glance Matt Choi's evolution from college athlete to 3:05 marathoner and ultramarathoner doesn't seem remarkable. However, the more you dig into his athletic history the more remarkable it is. Matt Choi is an absolute beast and an amazingly energetic person. Matt played football at Monmouth University and worked his tail off to get to that level. As an Asian-American, Matt didn't have anybody to model his game after. He learned to set his own path and made the most of his opportunities. After college Matt was unsure what to do next but he knew that sport would play a major role. Then COVID hit. Matt made a decision that would change his life. He decided to pursue endurance events with 100% effort and document the journey. Three years later Matt has completed a 100 miler and is knocking on the door of breaking 3:00 in the marathon. All while continuing to lift hard and be a well-rounded athlete. Following him on Instagram and TikTok at mattchoi_6 is always entertaining, info...
