If you want your viewers on YouTube to take action because of content they watched from you, it will only happen because you elicit an emotion from your viewer. The bigger, the deeper the emotion, the bigger action they'll take. In this episode we talk about this on a brand level - getting someone to subscribe and watch more -- but also on a specific level that you can use in each video if you want. A few months ago I heard Tamsen Webster speak at a conference about this topic and thought, "I need to get her on a podcast episode to talk more about this. This is fantastic and so helpful." Tamsen is a message strategist, speaker and author and, thankfully, she agreed to be interviewed for our podcast! We talk a lot about using storytelling to create videos that quickly create an emotional connection with viewers. When that happens, viewers watch longer, subscribe, and come back for more. However, it's equally important that our brand also quickly creates an emotional connection with viewers. Thankfully, the same tool, storytelling, helps us do that on a brand level for our channel just like it does on an individual video level. Park Howell, host of the Business of Story podcast, joins us today to share his ABT Method for how creators can quickly bring clarity to their brand and make it easy for people to feel something about them. Yes, Google and YouTube are owned by the same company, but that doesn't mean that what works on Google works on YouTube. Just look at their homepages to see that they have very different goals, different objectives, and that people use them very differently. We need to ditch our "Google Mentality" and have a YouTube mentality instead in order for our videos to reach more people. That primarily comes down to 3 different mentalities when it comes to our content: Keywords vs. Topics Search traffic vs. Browse traffic Education vs. Entertainment We'll talk about all 3 of these and more in today's episode. No matter what you try, you can't get more than a few views on your video. Or, maybe you used to be growing, but now all of the sudden you aren't. Why did the algorithm turn on you? Why are there other channels in your niche that are doing the same thing you are, but are growing faster than you? Why does the algorithm favor them over you? So many good questions! We tackle them in this episode as well as what you should try next if any of those scenarios are true for you and your content on YouTube. Which is more important: titles or thumbnails? Should you delete your top performing video if it's an old video that's embarassing? What about keywords? And podcasting on YouTube? It's all wrapped up together: your YouTube channel, your business, your passion, your dreams for life, everything. Sometimes we get everything we wanted and, when we do, find out it's not really what we thought we wanted. Other times the success we're looking for feels unattainable. In both cases, the culprit is often an unclear vision for what we really want and a false assumption that the thing we think we want is the thing that will grant us peace and satisfaction. We started this conversation in an earlier episode titled, "The hustle mentality kills your soul. Invest into these 5 efforts for growth instead." When I was starting my business and growing my channel, I quickly felt overwhelmed with how much work there was to do: email, shooting, editing, publishing, social engagement, creating products, writing sales pages, and more. I was reluctant to hire a virtual assistant because of the money and the time it would cost. But after I did it, I wished I had done it sooner. I made some initial mistakes at first, but was then able to start working on my business again instead of being stuck working in the business. Today we talk about some of my mistakes and how I find and train people today for my team in a way that enables us to move forward and take new ground as a business. And we'll do that by talking with my most recent hire, Katlyn, who is now my executive assistant.
