Episode 4: Emotional Memory vs. Visual Memory

Based on an anonymous appointment, in this episode we'll dig into the effects of "emotional memories" that have no visual memory to give us context (these are typically developed between ages 1-3, or repressed later in life because of trauma). If you have any lingering questions on this topic, personal/specific situational questions, or comments, feel free to leave them in the comments here, direct message us through Instagram @pinkchairthairapy, or via email at pinkchairthairapy@gmail.com. Remember, we're here to encourage and open conversation in the mindset that whatever it is - IT'S OKAY. "No one enters adulthood without baggage." So many negative, destructive, and sometimes debilitating things fester when things like this stay hidden - shame, self-hatred, resentment, addiction, the list could go on; but if we're talking about it, we're bringing it into the light and it can't fester in the darkness anymore. IT'S OKAY! You are not alone. Let's talk about it! Resources for anyone seeking, or curious about therapeutic support: Help finding a therapist - Psychology Today: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us (click on "Find a Therapist" at the top of the page.) This episode is being published during a time of quarantine and isolation due to COVID-19. Many therapists are now offering insurance-covered virtual sessions, but there are also services that will help you connect specifically with an online-therapist, which is an amazing option during this time: https://www.betterhelp.com/start/ If you're new to therapy - please know that sometimes it can take a while to find a good fit in a therapist. Therapist shopping can be rough, but it's worth the effort. If your first meeting isn't ideal, or makes you uncomfortable, don't be discouraged. Make an appointment with someone else, and keep going until you find the right fit. It's so worth it. You can also talk to spiritual leaders & trusted friends for local therapist recommendations.
