Clueless is considered to be one of the best teen films of all time – developing a cult following and has a continuing legacy. As it celebrates its 25th anniversary, we rewind to take a look at this teen comedy film which was loosely based on Jane Austen’s 1815 novel Emma, with a modern-day setting of Beverly Hills. Written and directed by Amy Heckerling, Clueless centres on Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone), who is beautiful, clever, rich, shallow, socially successful, and is at the top of her Beverly Hills high school’s pecking scale. Seeing herself as a matchmaker, Cher first coaxes two teachers into dating each other. Emboldened by her success, she decides to give hopelessly klutzy new student Tai Fraiser (Brittany Murphy) a makeover. When Tai becomes more popular than she is, Cher realises that her disapproving ex-stepbrother (Paul Rudd) may have been right about how misguided she was.
