Almost 40 years ago, one of the worst mass murders in Alaska history took place in Craig on the west side of Prince of Wales Island. Eight people were murdered on a seine boat and a former crewmember was eventually brought to trial not once but twice for the crime. The first trial riveted Alaskans for six months before ending in a hung jury. Two years later, he was retried and acquitted.
